Chomee burns economical 27 litres of fuel in Joburg to Durban road trip
It's official. Chomee is South Africa's most fuel efficient celebrity after using only 27 litres of fuel in a drive challenge from Johannesburg to Durban for the Shell Road to Fuel Economy campaign.
Chomee used Only 27 litres of fuel for the entire 591km journey from Johannesburg to Durban yesterday, in a Hyundai i20s. She averaged 4 litres per 100km.
She beat several other fellow musicians who were part of the Shell Fuel Economy Challenge – to win the title of "Most Fuel-Efficient Driver".
The campaign is aimed at teaching South African motorists safer driving techniques and how they can save nearly 10% in fuel costs by employing smarter and safer driving techniques.
The celebrities were under the guidance of John and Helen Taylor, Guinness World record Holders, for the most fuel-efficient circumnavigation of the globe ever undertaken in a standard car.
Shell South Africa teamed up with the Taylor's to demonstrate to South African motorists how fuel saving techniques coupled with high quality fuels and lubricants can help save on fuel and take you further on every tank.
Speaking after reaching Durban, Chomee said the Fuel Economy Challenge was an opportunity for motorists to learn new ways of reducing their fuel bill.
"The drive was fun but the big take out for me was how much motorists can save on their fuel bills by simply changing their driving habits," said Chomee.
Other celebrities will now be trying to beat Chomee's record when the fuel economy challenge continues from Johannesburg to Cape Town next week. The celebrities include gospel sensation Rebecca Malope.
