Shell South Africa Attains Level 3 Empowerment Status

Shell South Africa Attains Level 3 Empowerment Status

Shell South Africa Marketing* today confirmed that it has become the first international oil company operating in South Africa to achieve level 3 Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) contributor status.

Shell said this is as a result of a concerted transformation programme, underscored by the employment of young black women through the company’s graduate recruitment programme and the development of black entrepreneurs through its retail network programme.

Shell’s rating was confirmed by National Empowerment Rating Agency, a verification agency endorsed by South African National Accreditation Systems (SANAS).  The assessment confirmed that Shell attained full points for Ownership, Enterprise Development and Socio-economic Development as per the BBBEE scorecard elements.

Shell South Africa’s Country Chair, Bonang Mohale said the company was naturally proud of this accomplishment. “We recognise that attaining level 3 status is key milestone in our ongoing journey to build capacity and ensure meaningful participation of previously disadvantages groups in our economy.”

Shell’s level 3 BBBEE contributor status is valid until August 2011.
